A Day In the Park with Dear Friends / MOPA

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

I have been blessed to have spent a fair portion of my formative life in the presence of Erik Griswold – pianist, omni-instrumentalist, composer of New Music, occasional somnambulist, and true Friend. Oh, and he’s a tall drink of water. He is both brilliant and genuine and the source of some of my fondest, funniest memories as well as many of the more profound concepts of art that I hold dear. But Erik moved to Australia some 10 years ago chasing a skirt (whom he later married – the percussionist Vanessa Tomlinson – nice one, E!) and a dream. It’s been far too long since I have seen him. Our touring schedules coincided this past week, so we made arrangements for the four of us to spend the afternoon in San Diego’s Balboa Park, choosing to meet at the Museum of Photographic Arts. A perfect day, in my estimation. (more…)

A Family Session in Lake Tahoe

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

We had the much-too-rare pleasure of spending a day with our old friends Kelly & Eric Snider and their kidlings Ari & Jonah, as well as their friends Jen & Lawrence and son Milo. It was much too short, but we were able to spend a little time getting some shots of them interacting and it was a great session. We thought we’d share a few of them. (more…)

Many Thanks to the P.P.S.V.!

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

Pepper & I want to thank the membership of the Professional Photographers of the Sacramento Valley for the incredibly warm reception that we received from them last night. We came to speak about ‘Creating Your Own Personal Marketing Army’, and the group of ~120 was energetic, focused, and savvy, with a great set of questions. We really had a fantastic time. (more…)

A Maternity Session (AKA “Belly Shoot”)

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

A wedding isn’t simply a big party, its also a life marker – the start of a family. We are remarkably blessed to have many our clients return to us after their weddings to have us document their new families. We get to watch these families grow, and as a result, we kind of feel like part of the family, too. That was the case with this couple, married in 2005, who are expecting their first in March/April. Many of the shots from the session are really very intimate, but they were kind enough to allow us to share these few with you. (more…)

Rapidfire Engagement Session!

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

As part of every wedding that we shoot, we also include a complementary session for the couple at some time prior to the wedding day [usually a couple months]. We do this because it is an incredible opportunity for the bride and groom to get to know us behind the camera, and also for us to get to know them in front of our lenses! So last week we took Stephanie and Danny out to get to know each other a bit more! They are just an amazing [and can you say photogenic??!!] couple and are completely ga-ga in love! We only had an hour to shoot since Danny had to travel out of state that evening, so we worked fast and had a blast! Stephanie wanted more of an urban theme so we took them to the warehouse section of town. (more…)

Print Size – How Big is TOO Big?

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

We are often asked by clients just how big we think they should go with a print and whether there is such a thing as “too big”. Well, we just had a client order a 30′x40′ metallic print for his new wife as a Valentine’s Day gift – that’s about 4x larger than life-size – and she loves it! He chose a 5″ black piano-lacquer frame with a 2″pewter-gild inner frame and it is dramatic as all get out. Now that the gift has been delivered and we can talk about it, and we thought it would be an excellent jumping-off point to talk about print size. (more…)

New Postcard Added!

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

We have been pleasantly surprised by how many visitors have taken to our Send a Postcard section, so we decided to add a new one. This postcard carries a decidedly inspirational message that I think we can all learn from.

SLC Library’s 2007 ‘Black & White & ReAd All Over’ Gala

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

Pepper & I were invited to the Salt Lake City Public Library’s annual fundraiser event in appreciation for our small donation to the silent auction. The event, titled Black & White & ReAd All Over is a dress affair held to benefit the extraordinary programs offered by the library every year. Black tie is optional, but you have to be in black & white & red to get in the door. We managed to finish up with our wedding shoot in time to make it before the midnight close.  (more…)
