Orange County, CA | Lindsey + Matthew’s Wedding Reception
by Pepper
How much fun is this?! So then 2 weeks after their wedding, Lindsey and Matthew asked me to come and document their 2nd wedding reception in Orange County too! I was loving it, because whereas on the wedding day I didn’t have the opportunity to spend much time with them because of time constraints, on this day we were able to spend several hours together! The day started off early, with Lindsey’s hair and makeup again styled by Paula Dahlberg of Salon Kenji in Salt Lake City [they flew her out as well] and then just happy me and the couple went out to create some fabulous portraits!
If you are getting married, I cannot stress enough the importance of a talented makeup artist. Before digital, the rule of thumb was that you wanted more makeup, to ensure that it showed up in film. However, with the new digital cameras, there is so much resolution that it is imperative to have flawless, perfectly blended, and NATURAL looking makeup! The contracts now for all major news anchors state that if their show is being filmed in HD, they require a professional to airbrush their makeup on, so that it does look smooth and flawless. Lindsey is a beautiful bride, but Paula is a skilled artist and was able to make a stunningly beautiful woman look stunningly flawless. As a photographer, I like beautiful, but I love flawless! I have had brides say to me “Well Pepper, i know that if i get acne or something else happens, you can always retouch the pictures so I still look flawless!” and that is true. However, I tihnk your pictures will always look best if you start with a good foundation. Airbrushed skin is not the same effect as retouching an image later on in Photoshop. The point to remember: Hire a professional stylist for your wedding day!

Matthew patiently waits while Lindsey’s makeup is finished…

This is one of those great moments you don’t plan for, it just happens in front of you! Lindsey was talking with her mom who was at the bottom of the stairs, and I was able to catch this just before she walked down. As i took this shot, I felt the little hairs go up on the back of my neck [that means it's a really cool moment that happened once, and I nailed it!]

As we were finishing up at one location, the ducks decided that they needed some attention… [I think they're accustomed to people feeding them]

… And Matthew decided he needed to let off some steam by chasing them away!

OMG, can I tell you how much I love this dress from Alta Moda??!!

Fun fun fun! From there we went straight to the reception at Lindsey’s parent’s home. There were a little over a hundred people who were not able to make it to the wedding in Utah, so having a second reception where Lindsey grew up was a great way for those to come, see her in her gown, and share in the celebration.

A special thanks to Lindsey’s gracious family, it was a beautiful event and so much fun! I know that Lindsey is the last daughter to get married, but don’t forget, I also do children’s photography! But not to worry, we’re not done with Lindsey’s story just yet, stay tuned tomorrow for Part III of Lindsey and Matthew’s wedding!
