Hotel Park City | Courtney + Andrew | Portraits

903-0485.jpgWinter weddings are the coolest!  LOL – seriously though, Utah has a thriving winter and I do get requests from many winter weddings at the ski resorts.  Bear with me today, the comments may be a bit sparce, I am still not over whatever this is that I caught from my 2 year old, and the cold meds have made my brain go a bit fuzzy….

Courtney and Andrew got ready for their Wedding Day at the Hotel Park City in separate suites, each one surrounded by their friends, relaxing and taking it all in!  One of the things I love about hiring an on-site makeup artist is that you can sit and relax in the privacy of your own hotel suite and have room service brought to you while you get make up done.  I just think that the wedding day is a bit intimate, and I think it is more fun without strangers peering to see the groups of laughing women preparing for the day.

I LOVE it when brides and grooms meet for the first time prior to the ceremony, but ESPECIALLY for winter weddings.  Because here’s the deal kids, the sun sets so early, that unless we do pictures before the ceremony, all of the Couple Portraits will be in the dark!  Plus, I do like to take some time and relax when we shoot, maybe stop in a bar and buy a round for the bridal party, and that just can’t happen if we do it after the ceremony.  After the ceremony, we’ve got tons of guests waiting to see you and congratulate you, and as we all saw from last weeks wedding, sometimes the ceremony runs late because guests are late arriving and you don’t get any pictures at all!  Thankfully, we did not have any of thos issues with Courtney’s wedding, and we got to take pictures first!  This is about two hours before the ceremony, and we call this teh First Glance.  We find a private area, and only the bride and groom are present.  The bride walks up behind the groom…

… And then they bask in the glow of the beautiful dress!  Or their love, or whatever.  They’re definitely basking in something here…

From the Hotel Park City, we then drove to Main Street with the Best Man and Maid of Honor for some fun!  I think this next shot is one of my new favorites!

You are so cute Pepper, I didn’t know you were actually answering all of my comments! haha! Anywho, onto this fabulous post…LOVE the 2nd ring shot, and yes, yes, yes, LOVE the red door image!

You didn’t know I was answering? You thought, oh I’ll just generate random thoughts on Pepper’s blog and she’ll ignore them… Is that what you thought? First of all Kelli, I think it would be IMPOSSIBLE to ignore you. Second, responding to posts is kinda fun for me yeah? Besides I would much rather answer blog posts than emails. It seems that I answer the same questions over and over again via email, and I’d rather just do it here instead so everyone can benefit from my ramblings! :D

Such beautiful light, color and sharp images! I can tell they enjoying being around you, Pepper!

Thanks Jennifer! I have to tell you, it was dark and freezing when we took these, I think I was adding as much yellow to my white balance as I could to try to counter it! For some reason, even though I’ve been shooting weddings in the winter for a long time, I’m always shocked by how totally blue everything gets. It’s a different blue then in the summertime, because this time you’ve got the blue bouncing back up off the ground from the ice and snow. I think what I’m trying to say is that it’s a lot of blue to contend with for a photographer. It was fun though, and I think the end result reflects what I was going for! But yeah, the motion blur on the red, that was really fun for me. I don’t do a whole lot of motion blur, so it was fun to have my vision turn out so perfectly what I wanted it to be!
