Album Monday | Three Volume Set

February 8th, 2010 by Pepper

907A-17.jpgOccasionally, in my line of work, I have the privilege of working with amazing couples that require, for various reasons, that their wedding day be kept private.  Many of my brides love the bragging rights that come with being published in a magazine or on a blog, but when I do have the honor of working with someone who has a public image to maintain, or who have guests with the same requirement, I will do everything in my power to make sure that a couple’s special day is kept for only themselves.

So for the first time, this Monday I am showing you only the beautiful Albums we created for this bride and her husband, but not any of the images inside.  I am thankful that she is willing to let me share her Albums with you, and I hope you are not disappointed by not being able to see the amazing wedding or her custom-made Oscar de la Renta wedding gown!  Hopefully the beauty of these Albums will be able to convey in some small part the stunning event captured in its pages.

Salt Lake City Engagement Portraits | Nikki + Sohil

February 5th, 2010 by Pepper

salt-lake-city-wedding-photography-engagement-pictures-930-0115.jpgOw, ow ow ow.  Training is coming along nicely, but it feels a bit odd to use the word nicely when I just spent 90 minutes pushing my body as hard as I could this morning.  And yet, despite the pain and my body screaming that it doesn’t necessarily like using muscles it hasn’t used it years probably, it feels really really good.  And I can understand now why people are complete freaks about running or biking or whatever insane outdoor activity crazy people do for fun.  Because there is something very satisfying about this.  Maybe its just the adrenaline talking, but I feel more awake and alert, and also pretty aware about what food I put into my body.  Plus, bragging to everyone about how sore your arms are [an experience I haven't really had before] is pretty cool.

Also, a very Happy 29th Birthday to my awesome kid brother – I love you Roderick!!!

Alright, the reason you’re here reading this post.  The hot couple against the red wall.  I don’t use this phrase often because I think it can be easily overused, but I’m struggling to come up with another word that really means exactly what I want it to, so I’ll just use my original word.

Nikki & Sohil are HOT.

Deer Valley | Karen + Roger | Silver Lake Reception

February 4th, 2010 by Pepper

park-city-wedding-photography-deer-valley-silver-lake-lodge-august-920-1287.jpg

Deer Valley is one of my favorite places in the world.  The entire planet.  You might think I’m biased, because I live in Utah, but I’m not.  I’ve been to many different places all over the world, and my heart lies here.

Mountain Life Church | Karen + Roger | Wedding Ceremony

February 2nd, 2010 by Pepper

mountain-life-evangelical-church-park-city-wedding-photography-920-0301.jpgMan, I am sore.  Really sore.  I’m training to do a sprint triathlon in San Diego with my BFF Sara [because they always hold 5Ks and Sprint triathlons on Saturdays here in Salt Lake City!!!  Grrrr....] and I think I may have overdone it just a bit today at the gym.

Album Monday | Snowbird Resort | Caitlin + James

February 1st, 2010 by Pepper

snowbird-wedding-photography-IMG_6044.jpgSo here it is, 10:30 pm on Monday night, and I am just now writing my Album Monday blog post. Why is this you ask? Well, I happen to have a son. The most adorable almost 2 year old in the history of mankind [or at least in the history of my own mind]. It’s true, I’m biased. His school called me this morning to let me know that Zen had thrown up. Not a good thing.

Stein Eriksen Lodge | Casey + Peter | Wedding Reception

January 30th, 2010 by Pepper

stein-eriksen-lodge-wedding-reception-photography-july-917-07122.jpgAfter Casey & Peter’s wedding ceremony on the Flagstaff Deck of Stein Eriksen Lodge, they and all of their guests headed off to the reception!

Since all of the guests were flying into Park City from out of state [most from the East Coast], Casey and Peter wanted to have a reception with a view of the mountains.

Stein Eriksen Lodge | Casey + Peter | Wedding Ceremony

January 29th, 2010 by Pepper

stein-eriksen-wedding-ceremony-photography-917-0344.jpgThe day of the wedding had spectacular weather.  It started off a bit cloudy while everyone was getting ready, but right before the ceremony the sun broke broke through the clouds and we had a glorious and sunny ceremony for Casey & Peter!  The ceremony was held on the Flagstaff Deck of world famous Stein Eriksen lodge, with all 6 members of the newly formed family participating in a sand ceremony.

Kellie from Artisan Bloom, working closely with Lillie Garrido from Soiree Productions, did an amazing job on the floral arrangements and decor to give Casey, Peter and their 4 children a truly unforgettable day.

Stein Eriksen Lodge | Casey + Peter | Family Portraits

January 28th, 2010 by Pepper

stein-eriksen-family-summer-photography-santora-917-0130.jpgEveryone, meet the modern version of the Brady Bunch! Casey & Peter and their young families  suffered tragedy when Peter and Casey each lost their beloved spouses.  A year later, they were introduced, fell in love, and decided to join forces!

We met up as a group shortly before Casey & Peter’s wedding day so that not just the bride and groom would get to know me, but the entire family with all of the kids!  Casey & Peter really wanted to focus not just on their love, but on the fact that this really is going to be a union of 2 separate families blending together.

Album Monday | Deer Valley | Silver Lake Lodge | Sara + Jay

January 25th, 2010 by Pepper

deer-valley-resor-wedding-photography-album-silver-lake-lodge-july-park-city715A-09.jpgSorry about posting the Album Monday segment so late in the day, I have been struggling all day long with my blog editing program and finally decided to give up and just use a different editor!  Thank you for your patience, I hope it’s worth the wait!

This is an album I’ve been excited about completing for a long time.  Sara is a doctor finishing her residency in Washington DC, and you may or may not know this, but residents have no time.  At all.  No time to eat, sleep, or finalize album designs!  So here it is at long last!

Part of the reason Sara had to take so long to approve this Book was its sheer size – 300 sides holding almost 500 images!!!

Wilson Creek Winery | Jennifer + Lucas | Barrel Room Reception

January 20th, 2010 by Pepper

wilson-creek-winery-wedding-photography-barrel-room-824-1117.jpg

Jennifer & Lucas’s Wedding Reception.  Wow.

They were very excited about the location and kept telling me it was “in the barrel room” and I will be honest I had no idea what that meant.  I’ve never been a big wine drinker and haven’t spent much time in Napa, and this sounds so silly, but I just could not picture at all what they were going on about.

Then I saw it.  OMG.  Seriously.  A wonderfully intimate dinner with 80 of their nearest and dearest friends in this simply divine location.

The guests were first treated to a cocktail hour, complete with the award winning wines that Wilson Creek in known for! Read the rest of this entry »

Wilson Creek Winery | Jennifer + Lucas | Ceremony in the Vineyard

January 19th, 2010 by Pepper

wilson-creek-winery-wedding-photography-vineyard-september-824-0546.jpgJennifer & Lucas met at law school, and he forever was in love with a girl who saw him as “just a friend”.

During a trip for a law school oralist competition they were working on together, Jennifer came to the realization that her goofy friend was in fact the love of her life, and from there the seeds were planted for a stunning vineyard wedding.

That’s where I come into the story…

Album Monday | St. Mary’s by the Sea | Kathy + Ian

January 18th, 2010 by Pepper

huntington-beach-hilton-wedding-photography-album-pepper-nix-727A-17.jpg

I think we have a new favorite leather cover, and it is just delicious!  It’s called cu29, and I’m in LOVE.  Kathy and Ian selected it to complement their Miami Ink cover by having the cu29 on the spine.

Kathy and Ian’s 12×12″ square album is an amazing Heirloom for the soon-to-be born little baby girl, clocking in at 100 sides and holding 192 images!  [As I have noted before - nothing will light a fire under a Bride to finish selecting her images like the impeding arrival of a new baby!]

Sundance Resort | Sydney + Nick | Winter Engagement session

January 16th, 2010 by Pepper

sundance-resort-winter-engagement-photography-908-0119.jpgI adore Sydney!  I don’t think I have ever met anyone who has more fun with their clothes than Sydney!  We planned on doing her and Nick’s engagement session outside at the Sundance Resort, and because of the cold I had figured on us not being there very long.  Sydney completely proved me wrong.

Millcreek Inn | McKensie + Matt | Winter Wedding Reception

January 14th, 2010 by Pepper

millcreek-inn-winter-wedding-photography-901-0576.jpg After the portraits at the Salt Lake Temple, everyone headed up Millcreek Canyon for the Reception at Millcreek Inn.

Despite the cold, there was no wind and the snowfall from that morning staying hanging on the trees, like they had all been dipped in delicious white chocolate.

Salt Lake Temple | McKensie + Matt | Wedding Day

January 13th, 2010 by Pepper

salt-lake-temple-wedding-photography-901-0303.jpgMcKensie and Matt were married at the Salt Lake Temple downtown after a light snowfall that morning.

It was the perfect winter day for pictures, all of the trees had a very light coat of snow on all their branches, like I always pictured the land of Narnia to look the moment the children first pushed through the wardrobe.  Quiet, still, and happy…

And despite the cold, they had a huge crowd assembled to cheer them on!

Album Monday | Fullerton Arboretum | Whitney + Ryan

January 11th, 2010 by Pepper

newport-beach-temple-wedding-photography-album-fullerton-arboretum-pepper-nix-710A-02.jpgI love this Album!  It’s great when I see brides get really creative with their album covers and think outside of the box, outside of what is considered Normal or Regular, and start to really have some fun!

Whitney and Ryan decided on a beautiful leather that I don’t get to see very often called Bank Heist.  Bank Heist is a bronzed ostrich leather, and to complement it, they selected as their accent Chiara.  When she called me and told me what they had decided I positively squealed with delight!!!  It’s just breathtaking…

Salt Lake Country Club | Sarah + Andrew | Wedding Reception

January 6th, 2010 by Pepper

salt-lake-country-club-wedding-photography-may-909-0560.jpgRemember the perfect weather I mentioned yesterday?

It went away.

By the time I reached the site for Sarah’s wedding reception, the distinguished century long tradition that is the Salt Lake Country Club, the wind was going crazy and there were black and ominous clouds hanging over the East Bench of the city.

I chose this picture as my thumbnail for the post because there are about 3 dozen hanging lanterns on the patio, and every single one of the is going in a different direction…

Salt Lake Temple | Sarah + Andrew | Wedding Day

January 5th, 2010 by Pepper

salt-lake-temple-wedding-photography-may-909-0520.jpgI love this image.  Love it!  It’s simple, but oh so sweet, and one of my favorite images of the Year!

This was a fun, albeit short, session after the sealing of Sarah & Andrew!

The weather was perfection, and the bride was radiant in her custom built Anne Barge gown!  [BTW, Anne Barge the world renowned bridal fashion designer out of Atlanta is available locally in Utah only at Alta Moda Bridal, schedule an appointment in advance to see the 2010 Anne Barge collection in their brand new VIP suite!]

Album Monday | Thea and John’s La Caille Wedding Album

January 4th, 2010 by Pepper

la-caille-wedding-photography-album-823A-07.jpgThis was an Album I was a bit sad to have to send on to the Bride and Groom, it is so beautiful!  Thea and John are awaiting the birth of their first child, a daughter, and after a year of waiting on album selections, nothing lights a fire under a bride to pick out images like a new baby!

Thea and John’s amazing 90 side album holds 179 pictures from the Wedding Weekend [including many from the rehearsal].  This Album is 11×14″ and wrapped in a golden ostrich leather cover we call Firefly, crowned with a metal cover with their favorite image of the two of them in the gardens of La Caille after sunset.  It is absolutely an amazing Album!!!!

Sundance Resort | Emily + Casey | Winter Wedding Reception

January 3rd, 2010 by Pepper

sundance-winter-wedding-photography-january-902-0647.jpgImmediately following their ceremony, while the Bride and Groom took a few family pictures and the staff at Sundance reset the Rehearsal Hall for the reception, all of Emily and Casey’s guests were treated to a world-class Cocktail Hour at the nearby Creekside Cafe.

Inside was a winterized oasis from the elements, and the guests were treated to a variety of h’ordurves and hot drinks, as well as a Hot Chocolate Bar.

Large Drums were set up every 30 feet or so for the guests to find their way to and from the Rehearsal Hall in the dark, as well as keep their hands warm for the 3 minute walk!

Sundance Resort | Emily + Casey | Winter Wedding Ceremony

January 2nd, 2010 by Pepper

sundance-winter-wedding-photography-january-902-0291.jpgEmily & Casey’s beautiful and intimate Wedding Ceremony was held at sundown at the Sundance Resort.

As a photographer, I love it when my winter Sundance brides pick this time of day to hold their ceremony;  the snow and the pond behind them glow bright blue, and the final effect is breathtaking and magical.

Sundance Resort | Emily + Casey | Winter Wedding

January 1st, 2010 by Pepper

sundance-winter-wedding-photography-january-902-0166.jpgHappy New Year everyone!!!  To our former brides, I hope you had a happy and wonderful Holiday Season together as a Married Couple, and to our future brides, get ready for a wild and fun ride as you prepare and plan for your own Wedding Day!

I don’t know how it got to be 2010 already, but considering how excited I am for the coming year I don’t mind that December completely got away from me!  This was the busiest holiday season we’ve ever had here at Pepper Nix Photography, shipping a record number of Wedding Albums, prints, Holiday Cards, and making sure that our brides had everything they needed to celebrate the season!  I do love to blog, but unfortunately that is the first thing that gets cut when there are orders to go out!

My first post of a New Year.  A new decade.  Wow.  Remember the last time we rolled over to a new decade?  And half of the people were all paranoid about the computers freaking out and destroying the world because they’d think it was 1900?  Oh yeah, good times…

Album Monday | Savanna + Jesse’s San Diego Wedding Album

November 30th, 2009 by Pepper

san-diego-temple-wedding-photographer-album-black-leather-819A-05.jpgAlbum Monday is back baby!  I am so sorry about not posting forever, but we had so many albums we were working on all at once and I knew that if I didn’t put everything I had into getting those done and turned my attention away even for a second to the blog, that might mean someone not getting their album back when they were hoping!  So I hope you forgive me, but my Brides have to come first.  I’m sure you guys understand…

San Diego Temple | Rachelle + Rick | Wedding Reception

November 29th, 2009 by Pepper

san-diego-temple-wedding-photography-906-1396.jpg Wow, what a crazy month!  For those who are wondering why I haven’t posted anything this month, it’s November, which for us here means the annual dreaded Album Holiday Deadline!!!  All of my brides who want their album in time for the holidays to show off to the family, we have to order it before Thanksgiving, and of course, everyone is getting gorgeous albums to show off, so that means an entire month of me doing nothing but albums!  I have not yet caught up on my sleep.  But it also means many many wonderful Album Monday segments for the weeks to come.

My Grandma’s funeral continued…

November 7th, 2009 by Pepper

Nix0573.jpg My Grandma passed away 2 weeks ago.  We had a funeral and everyone flew into town and it was supposed to bring about some closure and peace.  For me, it didn’t.  So I wrote a very long post on my blog, this blog, about my feelings and everything i was thinking, and basically coming to terms with the fact that I didn’t really know this woman and so I found it difficult to mourn her passing.  I wrote that, and I felt a bit better.  Somehow airing out my dirty laundry very publicly, really helped me.  And then the emails started.
