Salt Lake City Engagement Session | Nancy + WIll

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

salt-lake-city-wedding-photography-engagement-pictures-Clifford-0166.jpgWill & Nancy were a dream couple!

So funny, so personable, and after dating for 7 years, so in love!

Even with a winter wedding and winter engagements, they were determined to not have wintery-looking engagement pictures.  So they wore warm-weather clothes and we headed to the downtown area, taking quick breaks whenever Nancy’s nose got a bit red!

They also brought along several different outfits, always a great thing for engagement sessions.

Salt Lake City Engagement Portraits | Nikki + Sohil

Friday, February 5th, 2010

salt-lake-city-wedding-photography-engagement-pictures-930-0115.jpgOw, ow ow ow.  Training is coming along nicely, but it feels a bit odd to use the word nicely when I just spent 90 minutes pushing my body as hard as I could this morning.  And yet, despite the pain and my body screaming that it doesn’t necessarily like using muscles it hasn’t used it years probably, it feels really really good.  And I can understand now why people are complete freaks about running or biking or whatever insane outdoor activity crazy people do for fun.  Because there is something very satisfying about this.  Maybe its just the adrenaline talking, but I feel more awake and alert, and also pretty aware about what food I put into my body.  Plus, bragging to everyone about how sore your arms are [an experience I haven't really had before] is pretty cool.

Also, a very Happy 29th Birthday to my awesome kid brother – I love you Roderick!!!

Alright, the reason you’re here reading this post.  The hot couple against the red wall.  I don’t use this phrase often because I think it can be easily overused, but I’m struggling to come up with another word that really means exactly what I want it to, so I’ll just use my original word.

Nikki & Sohil are HOT.

Stein Eriksen Lodge | Casey + Peter | Family Portraits

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

stein-eriksen-family-summer-photography-santora-917-0130.jpgEveryone, meet the modern version of the Brady Bunch! Casey & Peter and their young families  suffered tragedy when Peter and Casey each lost their beloved spouses.  A year later, they were introduced, fell in love, and decided to join forces!

We met up as a group shortly before Casey & Peter’s wedding day so that not just the bride and groom would get to know me, but the entire family with all of the kids!  Casey & Peter really wanted to focus not just on their love, but on the fact that this really is going to be a union of 2 separate families blending together.

Sundance Resort | Sydney + Nick | Winter Engagement session

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

sundance-resort-winter-engagement-photography-908-0119.jpgI adore Sydney!  I don’t think I have ever met anyone who has more fun with their clothes than Sydney!  We planned on doing her and Nick’s engagement session outside at the Sundance Resort, and because of the cold I had figured on us not being there very long.  Sydney completely proved me wrong.

Engagements | Anne + Jonathan in Park City

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Hodgson_0020.jpgI was putting together the post for Anne and Jonathan’s wedding for tomorrow morning and realized that you guys haven’t yet had the chance to meet them!

Here are a few of my favorites from the engagement session we did about 8 months ago, it was a freezing day and I had already been out shooting and wearing the wrong shoes I had stepped into a puddle!

Engagements | Lindsey + Jim in Salt Lake City

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Lindsey-0106.jpg Lindsey and Jim both work for the Utah Symphony Orchestra and were guests at a wedding I shot of their friends, and told me when they booked me that they were so impressed with the friends pictures that they had to have me for their wedding day!  Already, I love them.

Jim is a total car freak.  It’s not that he loves his car too much [you know what I mean about some guys loving their car too much?] and with Jim is is not about loving the car.  With him, it’s that he recognizes what his car is capable of and enjoys it to its fullest capacity [and then pushes it beyond those limits!].  He gets together with a bunch of BMW enthusiasts and they race their cars.  Literally.  They take them to a track and push them as far as they can go.

And there’s something very romantic about that for me.  Here’s a guy who is willing to give everything he’s got to something he’s dedicated to, whether that be racing his vehicle, recording a new album, or worshiping his fiance.

Engagements | Kacey + Jake in Salt Lake City

Kacey-0060.jpg

Hello World, Meet Kacey & Jake!  I hope this doesn’t sound trite, but I love Kacey & Jake.  Jake is one of those awesome humble guys who is totally good-looking but just doesn’t know it.  Every time he looks at Kacey, I can see what’s going through his mind, and he’s thinking “Man, what on earth did i do to deserve her?”

Engagements | Emily + Mitch in Park City

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

914-0098.jpgEmily and Mitch are the cutest, most adorable, crazy, and energetic couple I’ve ever had!!!  I cannot even tell you how in love with the two of them I am.

We went to Park City for their engagement pictures, just had fun hanging out [and watching Emily's crazy awesome dance moves!].

About halfway through, we stopped off for some refreshments [see Emily double-fisting - of course she says she's holding it for someone else, but we all know the truth!]

After we had been refreshed and watered, we headed up into the mountains in search of groves of aspen trees before the sun set, and we found them!

Thanks guys, I cannot adequately express how much fun you both are!!!  Wedding day is going to be amazing!!!!

Lanz_0036.jpg Well this week is turning out to be engagement session-palooza!  Four posts all in a row, are you guys getting your fix yet?!

OK, this is so crazy how time flies!  Karen was one of the first brides to book me for this years wedding season, it’s been over a year since we first started planning, and now the wedding day is coming up this weekend, I’m so excited, but I can’t believe it’s really here!

So this is Karen and Roger, we trudged out in the snow of Park City way back when on a cold sunny day and here are the awesome results!

Thanks so much guys, I’m totally excited for Saturday!

Engagements | Tanya + Joe in Salt Lake City

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Vaughan-0087.jpg I am so excited for this week! This week is Tanya and Joe’s wedding, just take a look at their engagement pictures and you will see why I am so stinking excited, you can just feel the love baby!

They are a totally rocking couple, and I just jazzed that i get to spend it with them! Here are a few of my favorites from our session together, we spent a few hours together in the warehouse district of downtown Salt Lake City and so it was really tough to narrow it down to just a few…

Tanya and Joe brought a few different outfits with them which I totally appreciated, it makes for a better session and I think also takes some of the stress off of having to decide which ONE outfit is going to sum up your entire personality!  I personally don’t know if that’s even possible to pick just one…

A big thanks to Anna K for the beautiful makeup, very natural [love the airbrushing!] and it photographed great!

Engagements | Alexis + Johnny in Salt Lake City

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Alexis-0156.jpgTonight I got to shoot Johnny and Alexis’s bridal session, so I thought it was fitting that I post their engagements when I got home!  I had so much fun with these two, I give this session a 9.8.  [It would've been higher, but you know, those Russian judges never score as high!]

Johnny looks like a badass, [and I wouldn't recommend messing with him] but he is a sweet-hearted teddy bear!  I love his relationship with Alex, I love the way the talk to each other and look at each other, I adore the love they share.  This is what it’s all about for me, finding that passion a couple shares and being able to capture it in camera.

My very favorite picture of the entire session, and also one of my top ten shots for 2009 is the very last one where you can see Johnny tattoo on his right arm very clearly.  He had that done in memory of his mother was passed away, and to me, seeing him look at Alexis like that, makes me think of the new little woman in his life who will become the mother of his children, and he will never stop loving her, never stop protecting her, never stop cherishing her.  I love you guys!!!

Engagements | Danielle + Kael at La Caille

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Doyle-0054.jpgThis is a busy week for weddings [I've got 3!] and I almost forgot to blog the engagements before the wedding!

Here is Danielle & Kael, they win the prize for being the youngest couple I get to work with so far this year, and it was so much fun to see that young love!  Remember young love?

The guy you dated in high school who was just the coolest and made you go weak in the knees every time you saw him?  It’s fresh, pure, and exciting, and that’s the love that Danielle and Kael share!

I can’t wait to see what the wedding day will bring!

Engagements | Jennifer + Lucas in Salt Lake City

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

824-0015.jpg Jennifer & Lucas actually drove to Salt Lake City from Las Vegas to have me do their engagement pictures in an urban setting.  We were also blessed with the gift of Leslie and Andrew, one of my Couple from three years ago!  Turns out they all work together now in Las Vegas, and when Lucas said he and Jennifer were getting married, Leslie insisted that they check out my website and fly me out for the wedding!  The wedding itself is at a wineyard in California, it’s gonna be gorgeous!  So here it is, a lazy afternoon spent together downtown!

816-0013Count the clothing changes ladies!  5 different changes!  Love it.  Ever see that Seinfeld episode where the chick wears the same shirt all the time and he looks at all of her pictures and she’s wearing the shirt in every single one?  So, that’s why i like a few different options.  Because you will love your pictures, and I don’t want people to think you’re like Shirt Lady!

Engagements | Simone + Andrew at Memory Grove

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

811-0039 This is Simone and Andrew!  Brides will ask me what we’re doing for an engagement session, and the answer is that I’m trying to find out more about the couple, how they interact with each other.  Plus, it gives you, the Couple, a chance to get to know me behind the camera and see if i am actually a cool person or not!  I do offer a free engagement sitting with every wedding booked, I think it is THAT important that we do this to get to know each other a bit better, I tihnk that the pictures on the wedding day are better for it.  Plus, then I’m not a stranger!  Always a plus.

Engagements | Amanda + Cory in Downtown Salt Lake City

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

809-0010Just a few fun shots I would like to share from Amanda & Cory’s engagement session…

Amanda and Cory chose two different outfits [which I think is always a good idea!] and we started with the dressy and finished up in casual wear at the park with their dog Maya!  I do recommend to all of my clients that we have at least two outfits.  I mean, lets be honest.  I’m a good photographer, these images are going to kick ass, nd you’re going to want many of them hanging on your wall at home.  if you’re wearing the same shirt in every single picture, it’ll be like that one Seinfeld episode, where she’s wearin the exact same shirt in every picture and all the time!  People will be all, So…. You REALLY love that red shirt, huh?  So, I do recommend two outfits if you’re thinking of doing a clothing change.  One rule though!  You MUST be able to change in the car.  When daylight is fading, there isn’t time to find a nice place to change.  Several years ago, I had a bride who brought 5 people with her, so they could surround her, each holding up bedsheets, so she had her own private changing room.  Yeah, that was crazy.  Needless to say, we don’t do that anymore!  So, bring more than 1 outfit if you’d like, as long as you can change in the car!  Amanda, of course, performed admirably!  ;)

Engagements | Brynne + Dave in Salt Lake City

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

814-0028OK, really quick post tonight. I just got back from LA [quick trip to meet with a bride] and the meeting went awesome, but now my head is pounding! I don’t think it is possible to catch a bug this quickly, so it must’ve been from my trip yesterday from Vegas. Anyway, I’ve been taking NyQuil so I’ll be asleep soon, but I did want to share some more pictures, I’ve really been digging blogging these lately! Oh, and in case you heard my rant yesterday on Facebook, I did get the blog software issues settled, using a combination of Wordpress and Ecto. Crazy, isn’t it? I have to use 2 separate programs to get my online journal to look the way I want it to! I think that’s just nutty.

Engagements | Jesse + Jay in Salt Lake City plus “Back from Vegas”

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

815-0084.jpgI’m back! Back from where? Back from the annual Wedding & Portrait Photographers International [WPPI to those in the know] convention in Las Vegas! i feel a bit bad, I should’ve posted i was going beforehand so those of you who were trying to get a hold of me and couldn’t wouldn’t wonder where I was. And also, to serve as a reminder to those photographers who might be interested, that is really is a rocking great time, and you learn a whole lot and see the latest and greatest that the photo industry has to offer! I found a few new albums I think my brides will be drooling over [I know I was!] that I will be making announcements about very soon, but for now I will leave you with an engagement session from warmer days! [No photos or video from Vegas. 'Cause, you know, what happens in Vegas.......]

Rapidfire Engagement Session!

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

As part of every wedding that we shoot, we also include a complementary session for the couple at some time prior to the wedding day [usually a couple months]. We do this because it is an incredible opportunity for the bride and groom to get to know us behind the camera, and also for us to get to know them in front of our lenses! So last week we took Stephanie and Danny out to get to know each other a bit more! They are just an amazing [and can you say photogenic??!!] couple and are completely ga-ga in love! We only had an hour to shoot since Danny had to travel out of state that evening, so we worked fast and had a blast! Stephanie wanted more of an urban theme so we took them to the warehouse section of town. (more…)
