Argentina Wedding [Day 4] – Bridal Session

Friday, August 14th, 2009

828-0920.jpg I LOVE destination weddings.  Love it.  New places are so much fun and so exciting!!!  My favorite part of any destination wedding though, is this day.  the day that I get the bride and groom all to myself.  the day to do the fabulous bridal session in a fun and exotic location!  Because lets be honest.  There’s no way I can get tons of shots like these on the wedding day, especially with a destination wedding, where the ocean might be an hour or two away, or the light is perfect at sunset.  I love the golden hour, but more often than not, brides and grooms are sitting down to eat with their guests during that golden hour.  So bridal sittings are a very good thing.  but, with a destination wedding, it’s a must have!

So Francesca and Dan hung out with me all day, until they had to go and change for the rehearsal dinner that night [stay tuned for tomorrow's post about the amazing rehearsal dinner!]  We started off at the Four Seasons Hotel in Buenos Aires.  This hotel is famous because when Evita was in production, Madonna lived on the fourth floor in the penthouse suite.  One of the guests just happened to be staying on that floor, not in Madonna’s suite, but we thought it’d be fun to get some shots there to start off with.  And then, we discovered something wonderful, and we did something very naughty…..

My 300th wedding!!!! Day 1 in Argentina…

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

828-0233.jpg Yes, it’s true.  I shot my 300th wedding, and I shot it in Buenos Aires Argentina.  WOO HOO!!!  What a fantastic way to celebrate such a milestone!  Oh, and it was fantastic!  The bride and groom are Francesca and Dan from New York City.  They flew me down further south than I’ve ever been in my life, and I was there for an entire week, documenting anything and everything that was said and done!  So this post [and the next 5] are all about this amazing wedding journey and all of the fun things that happened that week!  This is Day 1.  After a long plane ride and a short nap in my apartment in the city, we took off for an adventure!  Franny & Dan wanted to go on a hot air balloon ride!  the initial plan was to take me in the balloon, but then it turned out that the balloon can only hold three people, and since neither of them knew how to fly it, they decided to take along the Aeronaut and leave me on the ground.  That’s OK, cause I got to chase them around the countryside on crazy dirt roads trying not to run over any cows to get these killer shot of them in the air and their bumpy landing!  We were there a bit early and the bag wasn’t inflated yet, so we decided to enjoy ourselves and take some portraits in the empty hanger and nearby field while we waited.  Dan and Franny are an amazing couple together, check out these shots!

Engagements | Alexis + Johnny in Salt Lake City

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Alexis-0156.jpgTonight I got to shoot Johnny and Alexis’s bridal session, so I thought it was fitting that I post their engagements when I got home!  I had so much fun with these two, I give this session a 9.8.  [It would've been higher, but you know, those Russian judges never score as high!]

Johnny looks like a badass, [and I wouldn't recommend messing with him] but he is a sweet-hearted teddy bear!  I love his relationship with Alex, I love the way the talk to each other and look at each other, I adore the love they share.  This is what it’s all about for me, finding that passion a couple shares and being able to capture it in camera.

My very favorite picture of the entire session, and also one of my top ten shots for 2009 is the very last one where you can see Johnny tattoo on his right arm very clearly.  He had that done in memory of his mother was passed away, and to me, seeing him look at Alexis like that, makes me think of the new little woman in his life who will become the mother of his children, and he will never stop loving her, never stop protecting her, never stop cherishing her.  I love you guys!!!

La Caille | Thea + John’s Wedding Day

Friday, July 10th, 2009

823-0550.jpgThea and John had the most amazing wedding at La Caille, and it was one of those weddings you’ve worked on so long you can’t believe it’s finally happening! I’m going into a bit of withdrawal myself, having worked with Thea & John for over a year in the planning process to now realize the wedding is over and we now just have to design the album, well, it make me feel a little sad! They were truly an incredible couple to be able to work with, and plus, they taught me that Jagermeister is really, really tasty. That’s the kind of good deed you just don’t forget. :D

Provo Wedding Reception | Lindsey + Matthew

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

810-0934.jpg It’s finally here!!!! Spring has arrived! Yesterday on my day off [I take Monday's off since I am working each Saturday] I did something I had never done before. I laid out on the warm grass in the bright sunshine with my son, and we sang and got dirty and had a blast. Last year he was just too little for any sort of roughhousing, and it’s been cold or wet until now. So, ladies and gentlemen, I am going to make an official announcement for the State of Utah. Spring is here, it’s really here. And I don’t care if it does snow again, because then it’ll be winter’s turn to be embarrassed. Oh yeah Cold Front? Um, you weren’t really invited to the party we are having…. Yeah, I’m afraid I’m going to have to ask you to leave… Along with this Official Announcement, I’d like to share a fav wedding from warm days!

St. Thomas More | Tami + RJ’s Wedding Day

Friday, March 6th, 2009

820-0942.jpg I had a couple call me this week and ask to see pictures of a wedding at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, so Mike & Heather, this is for you! This is Tami & RJ’s wedding, lots of fun, lots of color, lots of alcohol, and then to top it off, a hot guy without a shirt throwing around sticks that were on fire. Seriously, this was a cool wedding for a cool couple, and although it sounds a bit cavalier to throw this word around carelessly, this wedding was AWESOME.

Hotel Park City | Brynne + Dave’s Wedding Day

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

814-1089.jpg Oh, I’m so terrible! I made you wait all week long to see the pictures from Brynne’s wedding day! :) It’s way late on Thursday night and I’ve been busy all this time and my emails needing responses have climbed back up to an unacceptable number, so not much talking today, I’m sorry! The wedding was held at Hotel Park City, I absolutely loved it, and while when the colors were initially explained to me I couldn’t envision how it was all going to work, when I got to the reception and saw how artfully Rachael from Roots Floral Design had created the entire look and feel, I thought it was an absolute masterpiece. This wedding in most definitely in my favorite Five of the Year for their bold use of color!!!!

La Caille | Elena + Jay’s Wedding Day

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

808-0187.jpg Elena and Jay were married at La Caille a few months ago, and I have to say I have never seen a bride pay more attention to detail than Elena did! It was the subject of the grooms toast as he recalled her choosing from amongst 14 different shades of white linens for their tablecloths, and while we all laughed, it brought the point home just how much work Elena had put into making her wedding absolutely perfect for her guests, so they could relax and enjoy the day. People had traveled to Utah from the East Coast, Europe and Asia, to be here to celebrate with Elena and Jay, and celebrate they did! Bear with me, there were too many beautiful images, I simply couldn’t cut them down at all!!!

Mexico! [day 3]

Monday, January 19th, 2009

730-1028.jpg Day three – The wedding day has arrived! Everyone was dressed in their best and couldn’t wait to see Lindsay and Johann tie the knot. Keeping with tradition, the bride and groom didn’t want to see each other until the ceremony at sunset that evening. So, while the women relaxed at the spa and slowly got dressed, the boys spent the day talking over beers anxiously awaiting the ceremony to begin.

Lindsay and Johann’s Mexico Wedding! [day 1]

Friday, January 16th, 2009

730-0004.jpg Day one – We arrived in Mexico! When the plane landed and all I could see were these beautiful palm trees everywhere, I felt like we were in a tropical rain forest. It was the coolest thing ever! I have traveled a lot of places but, this was a part of the world I have never been to. And, if you’re going to come to Mexico, this is the way to see it! Oh and by the way, when you get off a plane in a foreign country and someone says they will give you a free ride to and from the hotel with breakfast included, you should know it is their attempt to stick you in a room and make you listen to a time share presentation.

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

711-0165.jpg  I know this is an older wedding, but I haven’t blogged about it yet, and it was a very special day to me personally! Rebecca and David’s wedding meant something extra special to me because it was the day I found out I was going to have a baby!!!   Not right then at the wedding, it was earlier, about 1 in the morning that I found out, but you may notice more than a few pictures of children in this post.

Pepper @ The ‘Cabaret of Fools’

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

Thumb-2Last night we attended the Cabaret of Fools fundraising gala in support of the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company. This annual patrons event was held at the beautiful Rose Wagner Performing Arts in downtown Salt Lake City. The proceeds go to support the company’s many educational and dance outreach programs. Dress for the evening was described as “charmingly flamboyant or roguishly debonair (black tie welcomed)”. We didn’t read the invitation too carefully and were a bit embarrassed when we realized that I’d instead showed up roguishly flamboyant while my husband went with charmingly debonair. Faux pas, but we pressed on – its for a good cause after all. Pepper Nix Photography donated one of our flagship Four Seasons family stories to the silent auction and we are proud to be able to support the arts in SLC in this way. But enough about us – on to the foolishness!
